Water Supply

Water Transmission Network Model Build and Calibration

Project Description

Auckland is home to around 1.4 million people and is New Zealand largest city. The treated water transmission network provides between 320 and 500MLD of potable water to the people of Auckland. This project involved the development and calibration of a hydraulic model of the transmission network, with 260 calibration sites covering 5 water treatment plants, 45 reservoirs, 21 pumping stations, and numerous control valves and flow meters.

Services Provided

Data Analysis / Data process for GIS and SCADA information
Hydraulic model development
Hydraulic Model Calibration and Anomaly Resolution
Demand Forecasting
Project Management

Challenges

Key challenges for this project included processing of GIS data for the model build. Data processing and analysis of a significant amount of time series data from the SCADA system, and data management. Hydraulic model calibration always provides challenges, however through our extensive experience and knowledge of the water supply network in the Auckland region we were able to disaggregate and amalgamate the network to develop an accurate predictive tool.
